TRIMMED

Trimmed was a project that emerged from my obsession with topiary. I was interested in exploring topiary as an art form rather than just a form of landscaping. This book is a compilation of texts discussing the origins of topiary and its relationship with human and natural environments. I interviewed topiary artist, mike gibson, who’s words inspired me to create my own topiary, in book form. Each acetate page is case bound, which naturally opens into a standing cylindrical shape. Working with acetate allowed me to create the illusion of sculptural form, while also referencing the “invisible” or ghost space that exists around topiary bushes after they are trimmed. I also incorporated 3d assets that I made in blender, turning mundane objects into topiary sculptures.
