One of the advantages of printmaking is that print matrices can be used more than once, ideal for distributing viewership of material. But is there a purpose of printing in multiples beyond distribution reasons? The postage stamp addresses the concept of multiplicity in a unique way; multiples of the same stamp are printed because they become invalid after being sent through the mail. Using the postage stamp motif as the subject matter for my exploration, I created pronto plate matrices to print variations of postage stamps on the backs of postcards. This series was an exploration of composition and how many different visual layouts could I produce using the same printing matrices repeatedly.
